The light in young woman hands in cupped shape. Concepts of sharing, giving, offering, taking care, protection

BY ANNA HINDS

In a world of often confusing and overwhelming health information, it’s tempting to throw in the towel and avoid the subject altogether. Contrary to that time, just a few years ago, when eating organic food was “weird”, major companies are now joining the bandwagon and everywhere you turn, there are recommendations on nutrition, diets, supplements, exercise…..you name it.

The good news is that more people are waking up to the incredible benefits of organic, live, whole, healthy foods and practices to support their bodies. The not-so-good news is that much of it appears conflicting, overwhelming, and many people don’t know where to turn to get the truth.

Given all that, plus the unique variables of each of our lives, how on earth are we to discern which foods and supplements can best support our health?

Here’s a little known secret that could help you find the health you’ve always wanted.

Though often unknown, there is an internal navigational system within you, a type of internal “doctor”…your innate power to discern what foods you need, the best exercise, and the right supplements for you at this time.

I call this internal navigational system, your “Knower”. In contrast with your mind (which I call your “thinker”), the part of you that rationalizes, and sorts through the pros and cons in order to make decisions, the inner compass of your “Knower” leads you intuitively to discover what’s right for you.

In short, your “Thinker” thinks it knows, but your “Knower” KNOWS.

Of course, we can greatly benefit from outside help, such as medical and health practitioners, but tragically many of us have unknowingly given away our inner power because we simply didn’t know it was already there.

So how do we get in touch with our Knower to experience our best health?

1. Learn the language of your body. Our bodies not only have the incredible capacity to heal themselves, they also know exactly how to communicate with us. Unfortunately, many of us weren’t trained to learn the language of our body like we were educated in Math, English, or Science. Our bodies speak a different language, one of sensations, feelings, gut-level instincts, pictures and what we call “symptoms”.

The trick is to learn this language and to detox from invaders that are hijacking our body’s internal signals.

Many of us either don’t know that we can trust this internal navigation system, or we feel that ours is broken. So let me assure you, your Knower works, it’s simply that there are things messing with your ability to get the right signals.

The easiest way to start learning this language is to clear away foods that are causing disruption in your ability to get the message.

2. Trade “Confusing” foods for “Congruent” foods.

So start by making trades. Don’t worry about being perfect in this, simply trade the foods that are confusing your body’s internal signals with foods that are more congruent.

Confusing Foods are those that derail your body’s internal navigation system making it so much harder to make decisions on what foods to eat and which to avoid. Confusing Foods are processed foods, sugar, artificial sweeteners, hydrogenated oils, caffeine, alcohol, and processed grains. Like a car trying to run on the wrong fuel, these little buggers not only hijack your body’s ability to run smoothly, they also send you confusing signals that make it difficult to discern which nutrients your body needs.

In contrast, Congruent Foods are nutrient-dense foods that send your body the correct signals, so you can much more easily discern how to take care of yourself.

You are a whole, live, real, pure person – you need whole, live, pure foods in order to thrive…foods such as whole plant foods, grown from the earth (vegetables and fruits), sprouted nuts and seeds, gluten-free grains (quinoa, millet, buckwheat, spelt), high-quality fats (such as avocados, coconut, pastured egg yolks), pure proteins (from wild caught fish, grass-fed beef, organic poultry, or high-quality protein concentrates)

3. Do Yoga. The practice of yoga is intentionally structured to help us learn to feel, tune into our bodies, and release the toxins that are causing us to be out of touch with our bodies. When I first began yoga, I found it to be an absolute key to detoxing toxic foods, thoughts, emotions, and getting in touch with my internal navigation system.

4. And finally, know that you already have it. Your “Knower” is in there, waiting to be acknowledged. If you’re feeling frustrated by your health, know that there is hope for you to discover the connection within yourself you’ve had all along that actually knows what you need.
