Teaching yoga since 2006, Donna Layton brings a host of interests and experience to her teaching and her practice. However, Donna’s path to discovering her own love for yoga had some obstacles. A stressed-out mother of twin girls she needed a way to relax and unwind. There were no yoga studios in her town at the time as people there believed the principles of Yoga did not align with Christian beliefs. A suggestion from her hairdresser led her to begin taking private, at home classes even though many would have seen this as unacceptable. It was there she discovered the beauty of her own practice thus sparking a love for yoga that has lasted for over 25 years.
Donna’s desire to deepen her own practice led her to the Yoga Stand Training school where she received her 200-hour certification. She is now 500 hour registered yoga teacher and loves assisting with Yoga Teacher Trainings. Also, a retired massage therapist and Reiki practitioner, she has an expansive depth of knowledge in the healing arts including Iridology and Sclerology. Her yoga classes are centered on dynamic aging and she is well versed in yoga alignment and the biomechanics of yoga, allowing her to foster a safe, loving and creative, practice space for students of all ability levels. A lover of slow flow, her classes cater to providing nourishment to support graceful aging.
Truly a mermaid at heart, she prefers to see the beauty and whimsy in life as opposed to focusing on real world drama and disappointment. Currently she lives in Lubbock with, Bella Blue, her golden retriever and enjoys spending time with her grandson and grand-dogs. Always with a song in her head she believes the Divine speaks to her through music, which her students get to experience through getting to know her! The studio is her home away from home and she feels blessed to be able to help her community better deal with the stresses of daily life.
The minute you walk through the door at TYS you feel transformed and peaceful. There’s no place like HOME!
